Lesson guide & practice plan

    Suggested BPM

Practice targets for this lesson, not a fixed tempo for the style. Start with Learn; move up when the notes and rests stay clean. Selecting a target uses fixed BPM.

Fixed tempo · silent drum guide

Use headphones so the microphone hears your drum, not the app. Audio is analysed live on this device; it is not recorded or uploaded. Enable the microphone, then start a timing check to play the selected lesson with a silent drum guide.

During a timing check, BPM is estimated from your recently matched notes, including the written rests. Outside playback, play evenly spaced taps with the chosen hits per beat; irregular rhythms cannot reveal a unique BPM this way. Positive timing offsets mean late. If every strike appears consistently late, enter that delay above to subtract it.

    Optional bass / rim calibration

In a quiet room, play three separate examples of each tone for this session. This experimental check compares bass (D) with rim (T or K). It cannot distinguish T from K, identify the hand, or judge pitch and technique. Results depend on your drum, room and microphone; unrecognised tones are not scored.

Timing only until both tones are calibrated.

Automatic defaults use a wider timing window for earlier lessons and learning stages, and higher input sensitivity for quiet-note studies. These are starting points; room noise and microphone distance still matter.

Match results are approximate. Start slowly and adjust sensitivity if hits are missed or room sounds are counted. Very fast rolls, quiet ghost notes and Bluetooth latency can reduce accuracy. Switching away from this page turns the microphone off.

D: centre area, relaxed fingers, let the head ring.
T: rim with your dominant hand.

    Whole phrase

Enable Metronome above to hear the selected pattern. The count-in always clicks every beat. In echo mode, one repetition means a listen/play pair.

    Practice options

A timed ramp changes smoothly after the count-in and holds the target BPM when finished. It can speed up or slow down.

In “your turn”, the drum is silent while the score keeps moving. Turn on the metronome if you want a guide. Each complete lesson phrase counts as one repetition; in echo mode, a listen/play pair counts as one.
